Top 5 Cheap Eateries Under $12 in Sherman Oaks

Angelino’s find themselves reluctant to get their tuchus’ to the San Fernando Valley due to the heavy traffic and distance. It is a crying shame though, because not only does the valley hold some of the safest and nicest neighborhoods in Los Angeles county, it also has some of the best eateries. This month I am giving you a quick food-tour of one of the great neighborhoods in the valley, namely Sherman Oaks, and what you can eat here for under $12.

1. Hot Motha Clucker $

What has been called one of the best fried chickens outside of Nashville is located at The Fashion Square Car Wash right off the 101 freeway in Sherman Oaks. When the car wash closes, the Hot Motha Clucker crew rolls in and starts cooking for devoted guests who line up long before the shop even opens. It’s the ultimate scene of a locals LA night (old, young, couples, friends, dogs, you name it). Oh and the music is a whole vibe for itself.

These delicious Nashville Hot Chickens are super crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside, packed with ton of flavors.

Chicken Sandwich: tender sandwich with your choice of; no heat, mild, medium, hot, or clucked up (the hottest of the hottest). Comes with a side of fries and slaw. $10 for the whole meal.

2. In-N-Out $

Because every neighborhood needs an In-N-Out. After all there is a reason the late food legend Anthony Bourdain would stop at In-N-Out the first thing he did landing in Los Angeles, and the last thing he would do before leaving. Hands down the freshest fast-food-chain burgers.

3. Kai Ramen $

If you are craving noodles Kai Ramen is a great spot to get your slurping on. Super tasty and affordable. Their regular prices run under $12, and they also have good happy hour specials.

4. Farm Boy $

Walking distance from the Westfield mall is a small Asian supermarket that will make your foodie heart burst of joy. Not only do they have a great selection of produce but every day they are cooking up scrumptious foods that sets a delightful aroma in the store.

My favorite thing to get here? Sushi. Compared to all the other supermarket sushi’s, Farm Boy’s is definitely superior in terms of taste and freshness.

If you don’t like sushi they have a great selection of spring rolls, sandos, noodle salads, misubi’s, quinoa bowls, soups and so much more. You can find about anything under $12.

5. Kogi Truck on Tuesdays

Every Tuesday Kogi BBQ Taco Truck rolls up in the heart of the neighborhood to bless us Sherman Oaks locals with their amazing street food, timely for taco Tuesday. While many food trucks in Los Angeles have upped their prices to the appalling amount of $10-$20, Kogi still serves food that cost in the reasonable amount of $2-$8 depending on if you are getting single taco’s, whole set or quesadillas. Not only is the food cheap, but the quality and flavors are incredible.
